I've enjoyed all of the Man of the Month books so far, and this one especially. I'd call this a case of 'opposites attract'. She's a free-spirit that's not afraid to show her wild side and he's a buttoned-up lawyer on the road to an elected position.
The one night that they spent together years ago is not something either of them has forgotten. But he's older and wiser and has to be careful of his reputation if he's going to succeed in his chosen career path. She doesn't fit the profile with her sexy wardrobe, tattooed skin, and colorful hair. But he can't turn off his memories or his desires. He still wants her...
Selma is badass. She lives each day to the fullest doing exactly what she wants to. She doesn't do anything for too long, always ready to move on to the next adventure in her life. She explains that "I'm not ready to settle down yet. Not with a man or a career. I'm a leaf on the wind, and want to see where the breeze takes me next." Where it took her was to the office of the best lawyer in town. Of course, he told her he wasn't taking any new cases.
One look at Selma and Easton almost forgot why she was a bad idea. All he could think about was what he wanted to do to her. He knew he had to get her out of his office quickly and save his fantasies of bending her over his desk for later. He was tempted to take her case, but he knew he couldn't be in close proximity to her and not touch her. Of course, I was mentally urging him to go for it, using my super-reader-powers that never work.
Hot damn it was fun to watch this sexy story evolve. I really like Selma, she's outgoing and funny and someone you want to have in your tribe. But so are many of the characters I've met in this series. I can't tell you how much I wish that The Fix on Sixth was a real bar and I could show up on Wednesday night, order a Loaded Carona, and stay to watch the Man of the Month Contest in person.
At the end of each story the author writes an epilogue leading up to the next installment, giving us a sneak peek to whet our appetite for more. And it works, every single time. The line forms here...
