A STANDALONE second chance, enemies-to-lovers romance set in the cutthroat world of sports management.
They're two sharks in a fish tank . . .
If I had a dollar for every time Banner Morales made my heart skip a beat...
The heart everyone assumes is frozen over.
Her anger is...arousing.
Every glare from those fire-spitting eyes, every time she grits her teeth, gets me...well, you know.
If I had a dollar for every time she's put me in my place, I'd be an even richer man.
I'm a successful sports agent because I assume "no" means you'll think about it.
I'm sure what you meant to say is "Coming right up.”
They say even rich men don't always get what they want, but those men don't know how to play the game. The trick is to keep them guessing.
Take Banner. She assumes she's winning, but this game?
She doesn't even know how to play.
If I had a dollar for every time Jared Foster broke my heart, I’d have exactly one dollar.
One night. One epic fail. One dollar...and I'm out.
I've moved on.
I’ve found success in a field ruled by men.
Anything they can do, I have done better.
They can keep the field while I call the shots, blocking them when I have to.
And Jared has the nerve to think he gets a second chance?
Boy, please. Go sit down. Have several seats.
I'll just be over here ignoring the man carved from my fantasies with a lust-tipped chisel.
Oh, I didn't say the struggle wasn't real.
But I've got that one dollar, and Jared won't have me.

"The gulf between the truth and the lies we tell ourselves is filled with misery."
As I've come to expect from Kennedy Ryan, she doesn't shy away from difficult situations, she embraces them. I never know what's coming, but I always enjoy the ride...eventually. Once I'm able to recover and the earth is back to rotating on its axis again.
Jared and Banner meet in college. They start out as friends and end up as enemies. He had his chance and it blew up in his face and she's not willing to hear him out. Unfortunately, or not, depending on how you look at it, they are in the same business. Of course, they are gonna end up running into each other again. Of course, they are competing for the same athletes. Of course, they attempt to block each other. Of course, their chemistry is still working overtime and what they first saw in each other is only multiplied ten years later. "The man should come with a highly flammable tag, preferably near his cock."
This amazing story is everything I hoped it would be, and more. I hated some of the characters and loved many others that I'm excited to see again in future Hoops stories. I love the author's writing style and how she can make me fall for assholes, faults and all. How she's not afraid to go there and take her readers with her. She's fearless and badass and her beautifully broken characters never fail to inspire me. "When you walk through hell with someone, you burn, too." Even knowing she might break my heart, I'll follow her again and again. The line forms here...
