Verity by Colleen Hoover
"Sublimely creepy with a true Hoover pulse.
I've been waiting on a thriller like this for years."

Release Date: December 7, 2018
Lowen Ashleigh is a struggling writer on the brink of financial ruin when she accepts the job offer of a lifetime. Jeremy Crawford, husband of bestselling author Verity Crawford, has hired Lowen to complete the remaining books in a successful series his injured wife is unable to finish.
Lowen arrives at the Crawford home, ready to sort through years of Verity's notes and outlines, hoping to find enough material to get her started. What Lowen doesn't expect to uncover in the chaotic office is an unfinished autobiography Verity never intended for anyone to read. Page after page of bone-chilling admissions, including Verity's recollection of what really happened the day her daughter died.
Lowen decides to keep the manuscript hidden from Jeremy, knowing its contents would devastate the already grieving father. But as Lowen's feelings for Jeremy begin to intensify, she recognizes all the ways she could benefit if he were to read his wife's words. After all, no matter how devoted Jeremy is to his injured wife, a truth this horrifying would make it impossible for him to continue to love her.

"If an attraction is present between two people, those two people can only be one of two things. Involved or not involved. There is no in-between."
Colleen Hoover wrote a romantic thriller? WHAT? Excited is an understatement of how I felt about reading Verity. I had no idea what to expect and nervously turned each page afraid of what might be there. I was like one of those women you watch on TV thrillers that instead of running to hide goes directly toward the danger.
After reading the synopsis I already knew that Lowen was going to uncover a secret when she discovered the autobiography. It was torture as the details were revealed gradually throughout the story. I wanted Lowen to take it to bed and sit up all night reading it in one sitting as I did with this story. But, it was understandable that she could only digest so much at a time. The contents were shocking and hard to accept.
I found the idea of hiring another author to complete his wife's very successful series to be a very interesting plan. Being that her writing career is what paid the bills, and due to the fact that because of his wife's injury she required extensive medical care, it makes sense, right? But what happened to her? Are you as curious as I was? My suggestion is to just start practicing your WTF? face in the mirror now so you'll be ready when you read this twisted tale. #MindFuckAlert
The story is told from Lowen's POV, so the reader is inside her head receiving her thoughts and feelings. But, without knowing the other side of every situation you are left hanging right along with her as she attempts to get to the truth (aka verity). As Lowen assures Jeremy, "There's a word for everything." That might be a fact, but when trying to express how much I enjoyed this story I just can't find the right word. I'll just say it's waaayyy better than "alright" and leave you wondering what I'm smilin' about. 😉
